Dr. Tseng is Professor of Surgery in the Division of Adult Cardiothoracic Surgery at University of California San Francisco Medical Center and Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the San Francisco VA Medical Center. Dr. Tseng developed the minimally invasive valve program at the San Francisco VA Medical Center in 2010, Structural Heart Program in 2013, as well as a dedicated bilateral internal mammary arterial grafting for CABG in 2013. She has expertise in TAVR both clinically and in research. Her laboratory examined migration forces for TAVR by computational fluid dynamics, was a pioneer in determining the efficacy of valve-in-valve implantation in degenerated surgical bioprostheses in vitro, and is investigating TAVR durability using finite element analysis. She has been NIH R01 funded as a surgeon-scientist investigating the biomechanics of ascending thoracic aortic aneurysms to determine better predictors of type A dissection than maximum diameter. Dr. Tseng serves on the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) Workforce for New Technology, American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS) Research Foundation, and American Heart Association Cardiovascular Surgery and Anesthesia Council. She has served on the program committee for the Heart Valve Society and the Editorial Board for the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. She is currently Chair of the Thoracic Surgery Foundation Research Committee.
Dr. Tseng grew up in North Carolina where she attended the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. She completed her undergraduate Bachelor of Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa. She earned her medical degree at Harvard Medical School and underwent general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Afterwards, she joined the cardiac surgery staff at UCSF Medical Center and San Francisco VA in 2002.
