Dr. Kaneko received his medical degree from Keio University School of Medicine in Tokyo. He then completed a general surgery residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, then a cardiothoracic surgery residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He also completed an interventional fellowship at BWH and is cross-trained in interventional cardiology. He is board-certified in general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery. He’s the Surgical Director of the Structural Heart Program at the Brigham, Director of Clinical Outcomes Research and is the Associate Program Director for the cardiothoracic residency. He is an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School.
He specializes in Transcatheter and minimally invasive valvular surgery, including transcatheter aortic valve replacements, transcatheter mitral interventions, and minimally invasive valve surgeries.
He holds leadership, committee positions in the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS), American Association of Thoracic Surgery (AATS), and American College of Cardiology. He is also a member of the research and publication committee for the ACC/STS TVT registry R&P committee and the STS database. He is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgery, Southern Thoracic Surgical Association, American Association of Thoracic Surgery, Fellow of American College of Surgery, and Fellow of American College of Cardiology.
Dr. Kaneko’s research focuses on clinical outcomes research using the large database in transcatheter valve therapies, valvular surgery, and aortic surgeries. He has been the Principal Investigator or Co-PI on over 15 funded grants and is a reviewer for over 15 journals. He has published over 150 manuscripts and has written over 10 book chapters.
