Dr. Ibrahim Sultan is a cardiac surgeon and is board certified in both general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery. Dr. Sultan earned his medical degree from Cornell and completed his residency in general surgery at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. He subsequently completed his residency in cardiothoracic surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he also served as an advanced fellow in thoracic aortic surgery and minimally invasive valve surgery.
He is an Associate professor of cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and is the Director for the UPMC Center for Thoracic Aortic Disease and the Surgical Director for the UPMC Center for Heart Valve Disease. Dr. Sultan’s clinical practice includes all aspects of adult cardiac surgery with an emphasis on aortic surgery, minimally invasive valve surgery, and advanced coronary artery disease. He serves as a principal investigator on multiple research trials, has published more than 200 articles on cardiovascular and aortic disease, and has received federal funding from the department of defense
