Dr. S. Chris Malaisrie is a cardiac surgeon having graduated from University of Maryland Medical School in 1998. After medical school, Dr. Malaisrie completed a residency in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in 2006 and a Fellowship in Heart and Lung Transplantation at Stanford University in 2007. He is board certified by both American Board of Surgery (General Surgery) and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery (Cardiothoracic Surgery). To date, he had performed approximately 2,000 cardiac surgeries, of which 1,500 involved complex valve procedures. He regularly performs surgery at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
He is a Professor of Surgery in the Division of Cardiac Surgery at Northwestern University and Attending Cardiac Surgeon at Northwestern Medicine. Within the Bluhm Cardiovascular institute, he co-directs the Marfan Clinic, Bicuspid Aortic Valve Clinic and Thoracic Aortic Surgery Program. He specializes in cardiovascular surgery for valvular heart disease, the aorta, and pulmonary artery and the procedures he performs are minimally invasive valve repair, valve-sparing aortic root replacement, Ross procedure, and pulmonary thromboendarterectomy. His research focus is on transcatheter and endovascular therapies for heart valves and aorta.
Dr. Malaisrie serve as the Program Director, Thoracic Surgery Residency, of the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He is a Medical Advisory Board Member of NUVention Medical Innovation Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and a member of the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science, Kellogg’s School of Management, and Northwestern University School of Law. He co-chairs the Clinical Practice Committee at the Blum Cardiovascular Institute of Northwestern Medicine Health System. He is a member of the Surgical Oversight Committee, Surgical Peer Review Committee, and the Cardiac Vascular & Thoracic Valve Analysis Committee at the Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
