Dr. Rodriguez obtained his medical degree from Albany Medical College in 1995 after completing his undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Subsequently, he spent 10 years at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia in General and Cardiothoracic surgical training as well as basic science research. In 2005 Dr. Rodriguez pursued a Minimally Invasive and Robotic Cardiac surgery Fellowship under Dr. W. Randolph Chitwood at East Carolina University (ECU) followed by Congenital Cardiothoracic training at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia under Dr. Thomas Spray. Dr. Rodriguez then joined the cardiac surgery faculty at ECU until 2012, when he became the Chief of Cardiac Surgery at Ascension St. Thomas in Nashville and more recently became the Co-director of the Cardiovascular Service Line with his clinical practice concentrated in Minimally Invasive and Robotic Valvular surgery with a special interest in mitral valve repair. His other clinical interests include: adult congenital surgery, Maze procedure, and complex redo valvular surgery as well TAVR, MitraClip, Tricuspid Clip, and TMVR. Dr. Rodriguez served as past president of the Eastern Cardiothoracic Surgical Society as well as a member of several editorial boards including the Annals of Thoracic Surgery. He has also been the PI or Co-PI in several cardiac surgical and structural clinical trials.
